A Christmas Mystery from Jemie
Jemie's Candy Cane Caper
On the eve of said Christmas it was quiet and chill,
I began heading home just down the hill.
At my doorstep I listened but all I could hear,
was town’s people seething loudly and without any cheer.
was town’s people seething loudly and without any cheer.
"It's a Candy Cane Bandit!” I heard very clear,
every candy cane in town had indeed disappeared.
All stuffed in a bag with a savvy sewn bow,
whisked away through the snow by a peculiar old Jo.
whisked away through the snow by a peculiar old Jo.
A reindeer perhaps, but short to the ground,
instead short and nimble,
instead short and nimble,
not much larger than a thimble.
Through the town's streets I sled keeping steady in my plight,
and was able to thwart him without nearly a fright.
It was Harold my Yorkie who without any doubt,
had a fancy for candy and heading straight for hideout.
Harold's sweet tooth had been bad from his start,
but it was time to return it all before dark.
Alas, the town’s people cheered loudly with glee,
and Harold returned safely home with me.
Sorry old Harold as sweet as your tooth,
I must admit I enjoy a good sleuth.
Merry Christmas Everyone,
Love Supergirl “Jemie”

It's Thanksgiving time on the farm again. Will Elbert get his wish this year?
It just wouldn't be Thanksgiving without dropping in our favorite farm friend Elbert. We hope you enjoy this traditional JEM short story and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Elbert's Thanksgiving Day Surprise
“The weather is just fine this morning, just fine indeed,” thought Elbert, as he looked around a quiet farmyard. “Today is the perfect time to start training for the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey competition!” “I can see it now,” he imagined. “After all, being chosen the family's Thanksgiving Day turkey is the highest honor bestowed on the family farm, and this year it's going to be me.”
Just then, a group of turkeys came racing around the barn corner and smashed right into Elbert, causing clouds of feathers spinning in the air. Elbert was dazed and confused, but the turkeys just kept on going and laughed at him as they disappeared into the horizon. “Those turkeys think they're so big and strong, I'll show them,” thought Elbert. He continued to train by running, jumping, and eating twice as much every day to show the turkeys what he was made of.
Elbert's chest grew larger with pride every day. When the sun came up, he was the first one to begin training. When the sun went down, he counted all his new muscles along with his blessings.
“I'm finally beginning to earn some respect around here,” thought Elbert, who had come to live on the farm at a very early age. He had tried numerous times to be just like the other larger and stronger birds, but they always seemed to give him a wing up and shooed him away. Now, they stood along the fence and watched in sheer amazement as he ran circles around them in training. They would always stop what they were doing to watch him run by. Their beaks would suddenly drop open and their eyes would grow wide as saucers as if to say something when he sped by. He couldn't always figure out what they were thinking, but he knew deep down inside they were afraid of losing the competition.
The night before Thanksgiving, Elbert heard a strange noise and jumped to his feet. There, under a stream of moonlight in the distance, he caught a faint glimpse of the turkeys trying to sneak away from the farm. He called out to them, but they disappeared over the dark hills the farmer always warned them were filled with danger. Elbert desperately wanted to go after them, but he was too afraid of what lie over the hills. He spent the night worrying and wondering what had happened to make the turkeys flee their home. He finally concluded that, after watching him train for the annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey competition, they were all too ashamed to stick around and learn of their losing fate. Elbert finally decided to go to bed and assured himself that the farmer would be calling his name first thing on Thanksgiving morning.
Morning finally came, and Elbert was filled with anticipation. He listened very carefully for his name to be called, but he never heard a sound. “How can this be?” he wondered. “The farmhouse is always filled with excitement and celebration by now.” By afternoon, he caught a whiff of the sweet smell of pumpkin pie filling the air. “Something is definitely happening,” he thought and walked boldly around the barn, across the farmyard, and straight up to the farmhouse. He used all his winged might to jump up and crawl into an open window. He went over with a thud and was greeted with quite a shocking sight.
There! Right in the center of the Thanksgiving Table of Honor, was a great big juicy pink ham nestled atop a bed of tasty farm greens.
Elbert shrieked in disbelief! He caught the attention of every family member around the table. “What is the meaning of this injustice!”? he demanded. “It is not a ham but a turkey that should hold this place of honor,” he added sternly. “I, Elbert, must insist that I replace this ham immediately and preserve this Thanksgiving Day tradition for one and all.”
Elbert felt every eye at the table settle on him. Then, from within a crowd of family and friends, he heard one child's voice say to his dismay...”but Elbert, you're just a chicken.”
JEM Publications wishes you and your family a very
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

It's Halloween and Trouble is Brewing for Supergirl Jemie!
Jemie’s Ghastly Ghost Adventure
I was on my way to a Halloween party when just as I expected, I noticed the neighborhood was busy with ghastly candy stealing ghosts! Every year they hovered atop rooftops and trees, just waiting for their chance to swoop down and steal candy from unsuspecting trick or treaters. Children’s screams and screeches could be heard on every corner. I could not let it continue!
Tonight, I was ready for a ghostly roundup. I flung back my cape and activated the super suction ghastly ghost catcher that I designed just for the chase. It's long vacuum-like hose was powerful enough to pull ghosts right out of the air and into my trap. I kept it safely tucked away in my backpack so as not to tip off any suspecting culprits. It was working like a charm!
The empty handed children bravely helped me along the way, by pointing out the whereabouts of these pesky thieves. They shielded me and helped me go undetected while I positioned myself in their dark and shadowy paths. One by one the unsuspecting ghastly thieves swooped rapidly down for their prize but ultimately met their match instead.
The children and I covered the entire city. Together we cleared out our schools, churches, businesses, and our entire neighborhood of these ghastly ghouls. The best part of it all was working together and keeping our community safe.
Now, please don’t be alarmed. Each of our ghastly catches was warned, then safely sent away home. However, they did not leave us empty handed. They promised to be on their best behavior next year and wished us all a Safe and HAPPY GHOULISH HALLOWEEN!

Will Frankie's wish finally have a chance to come true?
Frankie’s
Fairy Tale
Frankie
Frog was enjoying another lovely sunny day out on his cool wet lily
pad. You see, he lived
in a secluded small pond near a park with his
friend Fish,
Turtle,
and two
ducks Mandy and Casey.
Frankie, however, was special. He loved to croak
the alphabet. His pond friends
thought
he was very odd and often swam away when he started to croak A B C D
E F and G. They never made if passed G because they'd
already be gone.
Mandy and Casey would just stick their necks under water
and pretend to ignore him. Frankie thought that was
very
rude. He was very proud of his talent and wanted nothing more in the
world
but to learn how to spell. More
than anything he wanted to learn to spell his name, but there
was no one around to
help him. So, Frankie continued to spend his summer days croaking
and listening to children playing
in the distance. Day after day the sound of children’s
laughter
gave him the courage to sing louder and prouder in hopes of finally
being heard.
One
day as Frankie sat alone on his lily pad singing H I J K L M N O P,
he heard a soft voice nearby singing along with him. It was the
sweetest sound he'd ever heard. His heart began to beat faster and
faster as the soft voice approached the edge of the pond. He
listened so closely he forgot to breath and began to cough and
wheeze. Had he finally been noticed? Had this been the chance he'd
been patiently waiting for so long? Alas, his time had come! A
small child had noticed him. “What's your name?” the child
asked. “Frankie!” he replied with excitement. “My name is
Princess Maxine,” the girl replied. “I'm on a picnic with my
mom. Can you come to our picnic as my frog prince?” Frankie
couldn't believe his ears. He graciously accepted and hopped over to
the picnic blanket where Maxine’s mom had set out a delicious
feast. “Who is your friend?” Maxine's mom asked. “It's
Frankie and he's my frog prince,” Maxine announced. She loved
fairy tales and decided to make Frankie a real life prince to call
her own.
Frankie
was happy with his new fairy tale role and was bursting with
anticipation! He was waiting for just the right moment to sing his
alphabet song for the Princess Maxine. He had only hoped they
wouldn't find him odd and walk away. Finally, as Maxine's mom began
to slice into a delicious looking chocolate pie, Maxine began to use
the alphabet to sound out objects around her. She began with P-I-E,
pie. Her mother helped her sound out and spell other words like
T-R-E-E, tree. S-U-N, sun, and Frankie's personal favorite F-R-O-G
frog! It was then that Frankie could no longer hold his silence and
yelled “I'm a F-R-O-G, frog!” He jumped from here to there and
there to here and couldn't quite contain his excitement. Maxine's
mom was astonished! She jumped to her feet and yelled “A magical
talking frog! A magical talking frog!” Maxine giggled as her mom
hopped around repeating “A magical talking frog! A magical talking
frog!” Maxine and her mom then knelt down beside Frankie to get a
closer look and agreed he was a magical talking Frog Prince. Upon
hearing this, Frankie stood up on his back legs and with every ounce
of his new found courage he sang every letter of the alphabet.
Maxine and her mom stayed to G. They even continued to listen all
the way to Q. Then they too joined in and finished off in unison
R-S-T-U-V-W-X-Y and Z!
Every
one of Frankie's pond friends couldn't help but hear the beautiful
sound of alphabet singing. They all quickly swam towards the edge of
the pond to hear Frankie and his new friends. They reached the edge
just in time to see him to take a very proud bow. Fish, Turtle, and
even Mandy and Casey cheered for Frankie.
It
was then that Frankie realized that never giving up was the reason
his dream was finally coming true. He had proven to himself that it
didn't matter who listened or not. He had a dream to learn how to
spell, and now with the help of Maxine and her mom, he'd be able to
spell his own name letter by letter. F-R-A-N-K-I-E t-h-e F-R-O-G
P-R-I-N-C-E. Frankie the Frog Prince!
